Scour Countermeasure Protection at 11 Bridges

Hunterdon County, NJ

About This Project

Eleven bridges that span rivers across Hunterdon County, New Jersey, had faced damage due to water flow undermining their structural integrity; therefore, Grade was contracted to combat the ongoing erosion by implementing scour countermeasure protections. The team installed articulated concrete blocks tied securely to the embankments with reinforced concrete for each structure. This stabilized the riverbeds and restricted further erosion, ensuring long-term structural safety for bridges in both high- and low-traffic areas.

Given the ecological sensitivity of the sites, environmental preservation was a critical component. Fish protection measures included constructing temporary cofferdams to reroute water flow in stages. If any sections needed to be fully dammed, fish passages and tubes were constructed to allow safe migration. The project balanced structural durability with environmental stewardship, spotlighting both the technically complex and ecologically mindful infrastructure solutions we’re known for.
